Utah RID invites you to submit Board Nominations!

Board positions will be voted into office during the Business Meeting of this year’s Bi-Annual State Conference—Level Up 2022.

Nominations are being accepted for the following positions:

Vice President
- The Vice-President shall, in the absence or disability of the President, perform
  all duties of the President and in so acting shall have all the powers of the
  President.
- The Vice-President shall serve as Director of Committees and oversee all committees operating according to the UTRID Bylaws.
- The Vice President shall perform other duties of the office as prescribed by the Board of Directors.
Treasurer
- The Treasurer shall maintain the financial records of the organization, making at least quarterly financial records of the organization, making at least quarterly financial reports to the President, maintaining the financial accounts, and making payments for authorized expenditures.
- The Treasurer shall perform other duties of the office as outlined in the UTRID Bylaws and as prescribed by the Board of Directors.
MAL (Conference Chair)
- The Conference Chair is responsible for forming a committee to plan and execute the Bi-annual State Conference & Bi-annual Mini-Conference.
- Members-at-Large shall act as liaisons to the Board of Directors from the membership, working directly with the membership assisting with the coordination of activities and communications within the organization.
MAL (Professional Development)
- The Professional Development MAL is responsible for forming a committee to plan workshops and Professional Development activities for the membership of UTRID.
- Members-at-Large shall act as liaisons to the Board of Directors from the membership, working directly with the membership assisting with the coordination of activities and communications within the organization.
MAL (UAD Liaison)
- The UAD Liaison is responsible for forming a committee to plan and execute the annual Sub-for-Santa fundraising drive. The UAD Liaison shall act as a liaison between the UTRID Board of Directors and the board of directors for UAD, coordinating communications between the organizations.
- Members-at-Large shall act as liaisons to the Board of Directors from the membership, working directly with the membership assisting with the coordination of activities and communications within the organization.

Nominations are due Aug 6th, 2022

Nominations may be made on the floor of the business meeting; individuals may decline a nomination.

Happy New Year! We are starting this year’s UTRID Professional Development offering with “Workshop Proposals: Fizzle or Flame” facilitated by Anita Nelson-Julander, Sarah Hemmert, and Teddi von Pingel. This workshop was rescheduled in 2021 and is a great way to learn how everyone can contribute to the experiences and knowledge of UTRID workshops. The Zoom link for the workshop will be sent out to all registered participants the day before the event.

Professional Development Workshops are held on the Saturdays listed, 9am-12pm (unless other wise noted) and are held via Zoom until further notice. When In Person workshops are permitted, they will be hosted at Sanderson Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing 5709 S 1500 W Taylorsville, Utah

The UTRID Board met for our annual retreat on November 13th. We are pleased to announce the 2022 Theme and our tentative schedule for workshops, conferences, and other offerings in 2022. The Silent Weekend event and Annual Conference dates are reserved and you can mark your calendars for those two events!

For now, we are planning to host events virtually, through Zoom. When possible to host socially distanced workshops/conference/silent weekend, we will provide off-site streaming options unless otherwise noted. COVID-19 precautions and facility restrictions may require changes in date/time or delivery method.

The UTRID online calendar will also be updated regularly with specific details about each event. Keep an eye out here and in your inbox for all that is coming in the New Year!

Hello everyone! We have been given an opportunity to help serve and/or donate to an upcoming event for our Deaf, Hard of Hearing and DeafBlind community members. See below for the message and links:

“I am so excited about this and so grateful that you are interested in sponsoring this upcoming FIRST Annual Community Thanksgiving Gathering on Nov. 25^thhosted by Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing!

As you know, a high number of our Deaf, hard of hearing and DeafBlind community members either are alone, isolated from their family members due to communication access limitations during holidays. Research shows that the rate of suicides are highest during the holidays due to people being alone or isolated. This shows how important it is for us to provide an inclusive place for all to gather and celebrate this holiday.

The plan is to host this from 11 am to 1 pm at Sanderson Center on Nov. 25th with volunteers to help serve, etc. We have set up a registration deadline for this by Nov. 19^th and it will be limited to 50 people at the most and by Nov. 19^th, I should have an exact # of how many people will be coming.

We are requesting that the donations be either as gift cards to Wal-Mart or WinCo OR buy the specific items requested and deliver to us by Nov. 24^th. The reason we are requesting either gift cards or food purchases be brought to us is due to the red tape under State of Utah related to purchasing food. We would face a lot of roadblocks in purchasing food and this is where we really need you! The estimated cost of all the food will be almost $750 so every bit that is donated would be greatly appreciated!
