This is a student involvement workshop aimed at bringing together ASL and interpreting students, working interpreters, and the Deaf community to socialize, network, and develop language. We will play several games to accomplish these tasks including ice breaker/get to know you games, speed mentoring, and depicting verb pyramid. We will strategically pair together students with more experienced interpreters and Deaf community members for various games to encourage building relationships and opportunities for constructive feedback.

Objectives:
1. Participants will develop a more robust Deaf and professional interpreters network
2. Participants will receive hands-on practice and mentoring by participating in various games based on their skill/knowledge level
3. Participants will utilize expressive and receptive skills through ASL games, activities, and socializing.

There will also be time at the end for Q/A and networking.

Participants will compare and contrast different potential job opportunities within the Utah community.
Participants will discuss questions and concerns with experts in various interpreting fields.
Participants will network with working professionals and other students.

This workshop is aimed towards interpreting students and newly certified interpreters, yet all students and interpreters are welcome.

Effective Learning Objectives

Learning and educational objectives serve three primary purposes. They provide:

Insight

Insight into the expected learning for potential participants. Learning objectives or outcomes should clearly describe what participants can expect to learn and how they can apply that learning to their work.

Guidance

Guidance to Facilitators/Instructors in the preparation and delivery of educational activities. Objectives help ensure that the activity remains focused and meets the appropriate level of instruction within the time available.

Information

Information for the Sponsor to determine whether an activity is appropriate for CEUs and to identify the applicable Content Level.

Additional Resources

For more information about developing learning objectives, review this issue of VIEWS and the resources provided by the University of Alaska.

Additional resources are available online for developing specific and measurable learning objectives.
