From Deep Roots, We Rise: Welcoming UTRID’s New Board Members

UTRID Annual Conference

From Deep Roots, We Rise

Welcoming UTRID’s New Board Members

As we gather together for the UTRID Annual Conference, we are celebrating the deep roots that have shaped our organization—and looking toward the future we will continue to grow together.

This year’s conference theme, From Deep Roots, We Rise, reminds us that strong communities are built through the knowledge, leadership, service, and relationships passed from one generation to the next. As UTRID welcomes a new group of board members, we are grateful for the foundation built by those who have served before them and excited for
what this next chapter will bring.

Please join us in welcoming UTRID’s newest board members:

Vice President
Adam Janisieski-Chacon

Treasurer
Andrea Rathbun

Member at Large
Workshop Chair
Kelsey Janson

Member at Large
Immersion Weekend Chair
Stephanie Belshe

Member at Large
Deaf Liaison
Itzel Sefick-Razo

We are excited to see these leaders bring their experience, ideas, and
passion to UTRID. Their service will help us continue growing
opportunities for professional development, strengthening connections
within our community, and creating a strong foundation for the future.

From deep roots, we rise.
Together, we grow.

Your Input Wanted — 2024 Membership Survey

Follow this link to view in ASL.

Scroll down to view survey.

Hello, wonderful members of UTRID. Thank you for reading this post. My name is Tanner Vance, and I am the new president of UTRID.

UTRID’s purpose is to support you and the membership by providing professional development opportunities to benefit the Interpreting community and the deaf community as we enrich our professional abilities. The 2023–2025 board will soon gather for our annual board retreat, where we will plan for 2024, and we want to know your thoughts. We want your feedback regardless of whether you are Deaf, hearing, a certified interpreter, a novice interpreter, a student or CDI, or someone just starting your practice. We want your feedback, please.

UTRID has a history of impact throughout our state and is a recognized Affiliate Chapter nationally. The 2023 board wants to continue this legacy and growth, which requires your feedback. We believe striving to thrive is vital, and we do that as an organization by recognizing your needs (past, present, and future), how they have changed, and what new needs have become apparent so we can adapt our programming to benefit you. Before we can do this, however, we have to collect your input. This is where we ask for your help.

We’ve created a Google form, which is linked here. Filling the survey out will take about 10 to 15 minutes (15 max). The form will close in two weeks on Sat. November 11 at 10 PM. If you submit it before next Sat. November 4 at 10 PM, you may enter a three-winner prize drawing for a free ticket for the annual conference or a workshop next year. It will be a 2 1/2 day conference as opposed to last year’s 1 1/2  mini conference. It will be a fun-filled, excellent time!

I hope you can take the time to send in your thoughts. Your submission will be of value to us as we plan for next year, and you as our events can better match your needs. I look forward to reading your responses. Thank you and have a great day!

UTRID Board News – Change is coming

Hello UTRID Membership!

I wanted to make you aware of an upcoming change with the UTRID leadership.  I will be moving to Arizona on March 1st and as a result can no longer fulfill my term as President.  According to our bylaws, the Vice President, would be responsible for taking on that role.  Tanner Vance is the current UTRID Vice President and he and I have met and determined both his willingness and aptitude for stepping into this role.  Because the next elections would happen in August and the president position will be open, it makes sense for Tanner to act in the interim with support from other UTRID board and committee members. Tanner has been serving UTRID in various capacities for the past several years and will continue to lead our membership into innovative and creative spaces.  You are in good hands!

The next few months will be crucial for getting more volunteers to serve on our committees for Professional Development, Silent Weekend, and Conference.  Please consider if you might be able to provide support for those events and reach out! Your ideas for how to grow and shape UTRID are valued!

I first joined the UTRID Board as Secretary in 2006, the summer we moved here.  That was followed by 2 years as Vice President and my most recent terms as Professional Development Chair and President. The Utah interpreting and Deaf communities are like no other! I have always felt welcomed and needed as part of your communities.  I will miss seeing you all regularly and hope that if you ever need a sunny break, you will come down for a visit! You can keep in touch with me through email at tlvonpingel@gmail.com.

Thanks again for your years of friendship and support!

Hugs and ILY Hands Waving!
