In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent announcements from the Governor’s Office, the UTRID Conference Planning Committee is excited to release updated information regarding this summer’s 2020 Vision conference.
Conference Delivery Format
This year’s conference proceedings will be delivered in a simultaneous online/face-to-face format. In-person attendance will be limited according to the discretion of the Planning Committee and in compliance with contemporary state-mandated gathering guidelines. Physical admittance will be granted on a first come first served basis when requested in participants’ registration paperwork. Conference proceedings, workshops, and activities will be accessible to virtual participants via moderated, interactive live-streaming technology. Unlike past conferences that have featured cafeteria-style schedules, this year’s conference schedule will follow a linear schedule to provide stable live streaming. Hopefully, this dual-delivery approach will enable practitioners from throughout the state and the greater region to join the conference this year. Visit the conference registration page to procure your ticket!
Business Meeting & Awards Ceremony
As previously planned, both the UTRID Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony will be held. The presentation of awards and elections for available positions on the Board of Directors will be conducted virtually. Board positions on the ballot include Vice President, Treasurer, UAD Liaison, Conference Chair, and Professional Development members-at-large. Additional information regarding nominations and elections may be viewed here. Award nominations close Aug. 1st; visit this page for details.
Alternative to Traditional Banquet
Historically food and banquet attendance has been included in the cost of admission. Due to social distancing measures and the dual delivery model of this year’s conference, participants will be responsible for their own dietary arrangements. Instead of a traditional banquet, the conference may offer an additional opportunity for continuing education credit in the form of an interactive virtual activity.
CEH/CEUs & Curriculum
Participants enroll in the opportunity to earn 15 CEHs (1.5 CEUs) by attending workshops and presentations at the conference. Specific details regarding presenters and curriculum are forthcoming.
Alternative Funding Opportunities
The Planning Committee is cognizant of the community’s varying financial concerns in these unusual times. Those who can are invited to sponsor a fellow interpreter’s admission to the conference; donations may be credited to a specific interpreter or contributed to the Sponsor an Interpreter 2020 Vision fund. Practitioners encountering financial adversities in the pursuit of professional development activities should consider utilizing UTRID’s Scholarship offerings.
The committee thanks you for your interest and patience in recent months while we have investigated creative solutions for hosting the conference in such uncertain times. Please direct questions to Conference Chair Deborah McHenry at email@example.com.
