Talking About What We Talk About:
Exploring Confidentiality and Supervision
As interpreters, confidentiality is typically considered to be the First Commandment: “thou shalt not say anything ever about what you do or say ever. Ever.” However, this binary (and misunderstood) perspective about the content of our work product prompts us to make decisions based on rules that ignore situational complexities and perpetuate errors. This month’s TerpTalk will engage all of us in a discussion about using confidential’ information to better our work while still respecting its professional nature.
