2023 Silent Weekend Registration

Welcome to Silent Weekend 2023!

Who is it for? Certified UTRID interpreters and Deaf interpreters or aspiring Deaf interpreters
When is it? Thursday, May 4th through Sunday, May 7th
What is it worth? 16 CEHs or more
Where is it at? Heber, Utah at Silver Springs Lodge
Why should I go? FUN!!!!

When you sign up for Silent Weekend and pay the early bird fee of $275, you will receive a three night stay at the beautiful Silver springs Lodge in Heber Utah. Your stay will include meals starting on Friday morning and workshops rewarding 16 CEHs. (No partial credit for CEUs)

Each participant will be asked to:
– Check in upon arrival
– Follow all rules of the rental
– Respect other participants
– Help with meal prep and cleanup (signup will happen upon check-in)
– Check out according to the requirements of the rental home.

NOTE: You are purchasing a bed in a particular room. If you want to share a room or a bed with another participant, be sure that you work together to purchase in the same room. All King and Queen beds will be shared. Keep in mind that there is one room that is designated as a men’s only room, another as a women’s only room while the rest are open to the possibility of being co-ed where needed. You will receive more information as we get closer to the actual weekend.

Keep in mind you must be an active member of UTRID to register.

Sub For Santa 2022

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR
to give to those in need!

The time has come! UTRID is looking for donations of items or gift cards for our Sub For Santa project. We will host a short and sweet party at the Sanderson Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing on December 3, 2022 for an opportunity to drop off the donations. For additional support we will be selling cookies, milk and photos with the elf!

This session will focus on cultivating effective co-interpreting and partnerships between deaf/hearing interpreter teams. The strength of a Deaf-hearing interpreting team in healthcare settings ultimately narrows down to recognizing the value of both interpreters that bring and overcoming potential challenges. With an emphasis on building and cultivating partnerships, it will ensure effective communication that takes place in healthcare environments to the benefit of all stakeholders involved.

Student Involvement Workshop – “I GRADUATED, I’M CERTIFIED…NOW WHAT?” 2/24/22

 

The idea of jumping out into the workforce after school can be intimidating! We have a panel of some of the best in our interpreting community to walk you through your options. The panel will consist of managers, leaders, and business owners of interpreting organizations in our community. They will answer questions about opportunities for newly graduated and certified interpreters within their organizations, recommendations, and what to expect. There will also be time at the end for Q/A and networking.

Participants will compare and contrast different potential job opportunities within the Utah community.
Participants will discuss questions and concerns with experts in various interpreting fields.
Participants will network with working professionals and other students.

This workshop is aimed towards interpreting students and newly certified interpreters, yet all students and interpreters are welcome.

The panel will consist of: Jed Patton, Adrienne Shearer-Davis, Nicole Hemmingsen, and Cody Simonsen.
