Student Involvement Workshop – “I GRADUATED, I’M CERTIFIED…NOW WHAT?” 2/24/22

The idea of jumping out into the workforce after school can be intimidating! We have a panel of some of the best in our interpreting community to walk you through your options. The panel will consist of managers, leaders, and business owners of interpreting organizations in our community. They will answer questions about opportunities for newly graduated and certified interpreters within their organizations, recommendations, and what to expect. There will also be time at the end for Q/A and networking.

Participants will compare and contrast different potential job opportunities within the Utah community.
Participants will discuss questions and concerns with experts in various interpreting fields.
Participants will network with working professionals and other students.

This workshop is aimed towards interpreting students and newly certified interpreters, yet all students and interpreters are welcome.

The panel will consist of: Jed Patton, Adrienne Shearer-Davis, Nicole Hemmingsen, and Cody Simonsen.

Students – $5
Members – $25
Non-Member – $60

Purchase your ticket (you must be logged into your member account to see the reduced price). Links will be sent 1 day prior to the workshop. Late registration may delay the receipt of the link, register early to avoid delays.

Conference Delivery Format

Due to precautionary occupancy limitations imposed in the interest of public safety, UTRID’S 2021 A.R.T IS NEVER ENDING Conference will no longer offer tickets for face-to-face attendance. With the exception of an outdoor socially-distanced networking event, all conference proceedings will be held virtually through video conferencing software. Conference proceedings and workshops will be accessible to virtual participants via moderated, interactive live-streaming technology. Unlike past conferences that have featured cafeteria-style schedules, this year’s conference will follow a linear schedule to provide stable live streaming. Hopefully, this online delivery approach will enable practitioners from throughout the state and the greater region to join the conference this year. Visit the conference registration page to procure your ticket!

UTRID Business Meeting

As previously planned, the UTRID Business Meeting will be held shortly after Noon on Saturday, Aug. 7th. Elections for available positions on the Board of Directors will be conducted virtually. Board positions on the ballot include Vice President, Treasurer, UAD Liaison, Conference Chair, and Professional Development members-at-large. Additional information regarding nominations and elections may be viewed here. Award nominations and presentations have been postponed until further notice.

Alternative to Traditional Banquet

Instead of a traditional banquet, the conference will include an additional opportunity for continuing education credit in an interactive virtual activity—“Escape 2020.”

Alternative Funding Opportunities

The Planning Committee is cognizant of the community’s growing financial concerns in recent months. We invite those who are able to sponsor a fellow interpreter’s admission to the conference; donations may be credited to a specific interpreter or contributed to the Sponsor an Interpreter 2021 A.R.T IS NEVER ENDING fund. Practitioners encountering financial adversities in the pursuit of professional development activities should consider utilizing UTRID’s Scholarship offerings.

Thank you for your continued interest and patience as the conference has adapted amidst such uncertain times. Please direct questions to Conference Chair Deborah McHenry at [email protected].

As a UTRID volunteer, I promised to carry out the above agreement to the best of my abilities. I understand that I may be removed if I fail to act in good faith on any part of this agreement. In return, I will be respected as a valued volunteer whose contributions will be honored and recognized.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY

In exchange for participation in the activity of UTRID, and/or use of the property, facilities and services associated with UTRID.

1. I agree to observe and obey all posted rules and warnings, and further agree to follow any oral instructions or directions given by UTRID, or the employees, representatives or agents.

In the event any ambiguity is found to exist in the interpretation of this Agreement, or any of its provisions, the Parties, and each of them, explicitly reject the application of any legal or equitable rule of interpretation which would lead to a construction either “for” or “against” a particular party based upon their status as the drafter of a specific term, language, or provision giving rise to such ambiguity.
8. The invalidity or un-enforceability of any provision of this Agreement, whether standing alone or as applied to a particular occurrence or circumstance, shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision of this Agreement or of any other applications of such provision, as the case may be, and such invalid or unenforceable provision shall be deemed not to be a part of this Agreement.
9. Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this contract, or the breach thereof, shall be settled by arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association in accordance with its Commercial Arbitration Rules, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator(s) may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof.
